Betsy would lay mutilated mice at our doorstep to please us. I was scared of mice, so it was pleasing to see them dead. Betsy became a hero of mine, the kind of hero who is not allowed in the house. I applied Betsy’s trick to my relationship with God somewhere along the line. Hoping that my bounty would be enough to let me in the house. Trying to fix others and myself became my decapitated mouse present to God.
Turns out, it really is just gross.
The good news; God cleans up our dead gifts because he loves us and He invites us in because the offering of his son.

John 6:28-30

29 Jesus answered, “The work of God is this: to believe in the one he has sent.”
