New City Folks,
Happy Friday before a three-day weekend!!!

I signed up to be the Chairman of the Dad’s committee for our PTA. Today was our annual Doughnuts for Dads. It is crazier than you think. The line between grown man and child gets blurred in the face of 1,000 Krispy Kreme doughnuts.

I had to be there, and talk a bit. It wasn’t until this morning that I fully recognized the disturbance to my routine. What was I thinking? Do I really have time for this? Is this just sideways energy? Then I went straight to humanity’s fatal flaw….“What’s in it for me?”

I pushed through the tiredness, frustration, and skepticism to my great pleasure. I always forget how much I really enjoy meeting new people in our community, talking on the microphone, handing out doughnuts, and helping a school that serves my children. Why do I feel so thrilled having done it?

It’s my calling. I was made for this sort of thing. It’s exactly the path to becoming who I want to be.
When I see life as a calling, the joy is relished in who I am becoming and not held hostage by circumstances, enemies, or results.

Ephesians 1:17-19
17 I keep asking that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you the Spirit of wisdom and revelation, so that you may know him better. 18 I pray also that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened in order that you may know the hope to which he has called you, the riches of his glorious inheritance in the saints, 19 and his incomparably great power for us who believe.

Enjoy your callings,
Adam Barcott
