On Sunday’s our community has been talking about the faith, love and hope of God’s economy.
Glorious riches accessed by faith, unlimited resources at the expense of Christ on the cross, an economy of people who invest their lives with hope and imagination. (Ephesians 3:14-21).
So when Monique shared her thanksgiving experience with me I had to pass it along.
“Hi Adam,
Hope you and your family had a nice Thanksgiving!
I want to share a story with you about God’s Economy. When it happened, it really made me laugh.
Yesterday I went to the First United Methodist Church in downtown Kissimmee to help prepare Thanksgiving dinner and serve it to the homeless. While I was getting ready to go to the church in the morning, I thought about bringing some food for the volunteers to eat while they worked preparing the Thanksgiving dinner food. I struggled with myself because I had bought 6 glazed donuts and 4 cherry turnovers the night before at Publix, and I really wanted to keep them for myself instead of taking them to the church. Finally, though, I decided to bring them to the church and share them, which I did.
So we had everything prepared to start serving, and around noon three groups of people came in with hundreds of loaves of bread, rolls, pies, pastries, donuts, cakes, turnovers, strudels, you name it, from Publix. Apparently Publix donates all the their leftover bakery items each year.
Of course, each of us, including every homeless person, got to take several bakery items when they left. I got a strudel, some cinnamon buns, and some garlic bread. And so I laughed at my economy vs God’s Economy. It’s funny how God’s lessons are sometimes immediate and right your face!! “
Thanks Monique.
I love how there are always left over’s in God’s economy.
Adam
