Just got back from my trip to Guatemala.
We had a tremendous journey filled with danger/excitement and kindness. For the danger and excitement part just look up the Ixill region of the Guatemala Mountains, then imagine traversing them in the bed of a Mazda truck. The line between beauty and terror is a matter of taste…I liked it.
The amazing vistas, the overwhelming smells and rich culture were what I expected, what I remembered from last time. (Oh yeah, turns out when you say “last time” more than 30 times a day the new people get irritated). There was something different “this time”. There was a deeper texture of kindness around all of our activities and conversations. We were welcomed back. Conversations were remembered and continued. Hugs were stronger and a little longer. Kindness was being exchanged through meals and soccer balls. We were with friends.
Besides a few comical phrases in Spanish (which I use to defuse my linguistic insecurity) I only know a handful of words. But fortunately for me, when you’re with friends, you only really need to know one…Gracias.
Psalm 106:1 “Praise the Lord. Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; his love endures forever.”
Receive the kindness of God today.
Glad to be back, thanks for your prayers,
Adam
