Imagine this conversation with a Kid-

Mommy… Daddy… Good morning. Will you help me to take care of this house today? I just ask that you would help me to do the dishes the best I can. So could you arrange for there to be little to no dishes in the sink today. I ask that you would really give me the power and guidance to be nice to my sisters today. Mommy take Grace and Halie somewhere out of the house today. Would you please bless me while I do the laundry. I’m just asking that the detergent to water ratio would be set and the colors separated when I get there. Daddy I love your yard, would you help it to look pretty. Mommy… Daddy… I need your help today. Help me to help you. Would you please help me today? I love you and thank you for being my parents. Your great. See you tonight.

This conversation would be sweet. The kid wants to help. That’s great. So I wouldn’t be mad about it. Its just a ridiculous perspective. A perspective that I have practiced in my tortured prayer life for years. Today’s blog is part of my processing. I have been religiously asking God to help me do his work and then to make it as easy as possible. (no sickness, no difficult people, no rain, no wrong answers…) God thinks it is sweet that I want to help. That’s great. It’s just a ridiculous and frustrating perspective.

This is why it is easy to give up on prayer. God can do his own homework.

So I have changed my attitude when talking to God.
Now I go into his bedroom in the morning and say “Can I go to work with you today?”
I want to see what you do. I want to be with you all day and help however I can.
Can I go to work with you today? He always say’s yes.

In America “Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day” is Thursday April 26th 2012. (recommended age range 8-18). I’ve done some research and found out that God’s office allows it year round with no age restrictions.
