My children are changing. It used to be easy to put their drawings on the fridge.
But I have noticed with more independence comes the urge to disguise need for attention and approval.
The last couple of weeks I figured it out, it’s in their eyes.
Their eyes will flash at me in the middle of a cartwheel, video game, or dog feeding.
That quick and serious look is asking me if I care about them? The more it has been happening, the more I get it.
I like that my approval matters to them, so I give it. I love them.
It made me wonder how often I flash my eyes up to God.
How often does my heart ask, “God did you see that! Am I doing a good cartwheel?”
Reminded me of the old song:
“I sing because I’m happy, I sing because I’m free,
For His eye is on the sparrow, and I know He watches me.”
Matthew 10:29-31
29 Are not two sparrows sold for a penny? Yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from the will of your Father. 30 And even the very hairs of your head are all numbered. 31 So don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.
Enjoy God’s attention and approval today,
Adam
