Saw an old photo that reminded me of an incident.
“April, I’m sorry I broke your tail bone…”
I was trying to be funny, to get April’s attention, to make her “like” me. Who knew that pulling a chair out from underneath someone as they sit, does not make you more attractive? As she is being carried away to the nurse’s station, I felt awful. Mrs. Cook asked me where this destructive behavior came from? I answered with tears. Sometimes what you want to accomplish and what you actually do, don’t line up.
When that happens all you can do is say sorry.
After a series of “poor choices” King David was confronted with the truth of his destructive behavior. His response is the 51st Psalm. Read it.
It’s really good news for those of us who don’t always execute our good intentions.
Here are the parts I pray the most.
1 Have mercy on me, O God,
according to your unfailing love;
according to your great compassion
blot out my transgressions.10 Create in me a pure heart, O God,
and renew a steadfast spirit within me.12 Restore to me the joy of your salvation
and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me.16 You do not delight in sacrifice, or I would bring it;
you do not take pleasure in burnt offerings.
17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart,
O God, you will not despise.
Have a great week,
Pastor Adam
