Talking to Anthony (guitar player in worship) and he was telling me something that God has been doing in his life. I liked it so much I asked Anthony if I could pass it along to the rest of the community.

“I was reading Colossians some months ago, and came across a passage that really hit me:
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly, teaching and admonishing one another in all wisdom, singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, with thankfulness in your hearts to God. And whatever you do, in word or deed, do everything in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him. – Col 3:16-17

I’ve always thought about and prayed for people, so why wouldn’t I tell them I was? At first I though it would come across as hokey and insincere, but I couldn’t look at the passage above and not want to love people and let them know about it. So I sucked it up and started sending short texts and emails to people I was already thinking about and praying for, telling them I’m praying for them, perhaps sharing a verse that stuck out to me for them, or just asking how they were.

The responses dispelled any sense of perceived insincerity on my end; I was overwhelmed by the gracious responses! “This came at just the right time, thank you!” “Thanks for the encouragement and prayers, it really means a lot.” Some of them have sparked some of the best conversations I’ve had with people. Who wouldn’t want to experience this? I don’t really know what I’m going to say or why I’m saying it or even to which people, but I don’t have to. I’m just thankful God will use me to provide words of encouragement and just love people.”

It’s exciting to think that this is what “Being the Church” looks like.
Thanks for telling us Anthony.
