I was having a lunch with a friend the other day and he was wrestling with his career choice. He is tired, bored, wondering if this is it. Work to make money, spend money to rest up, so he can go back to work. You get it.

So I said
pretend that there is this all-powerful God of the universe who knows your name, listens to you, and is committed to loving you as a parent.

Now, if that were true… what would you do?

What career would you choose?
What talents would you develop/pursue?
Who would you help?
How would this affect your religious commitment?
How would this affect your self-esteem?
What would you do different?

Is there a gap between what you are doing and your answers?
The person who trusts Christ doesn’t have to pretend.
The more you buy into the story of God the smaller the gap can become.

My friend said he would want to be a sportscaster for ESPN.
I said cool, do it bro! I want to plant a church.
