Love is complicated.
Just this morning… I coaxed my daughter into wearing a jacket, a conversation that took place while on the toilet. Yelled at my son that if he didn’t go to school he would have to spend the day at the police station, because that’s truancy. Counseled and hugged on my other daughter because she was crying about several situations, one of which meant that I was now going to drive her to school. I’m leaving out the muffin drama and the intense conversation about the ridiculous notion of “Karma”. (It had to be addressed, even though they zoned out as soon as I started).
So the reason I’m sharing this with you is because it’s Valentines Day. All about feeling the love!
Love should be easy, fun, sweet, in shades of red, pink and purple. So I was a little upset about the morning until I was reminded of what the love of God looks like.
1 John 4:10-11 This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another.
So whether your giving, receiving, or wishing for a box of chocolates today, know that this beautiful thing we call love always comes in shades of patience, sacrifice and humility.
Happy Valentines Day
Adam
