Every time I go to Nicks, he asks the same question, “what do you want?”
Surprisingly unprepared I say, “shorter… I guess”.
You would think after so many times of sitting in his barber chair I would have a better answer.
Lucky for me, he is really good at his job.
Since we were talking about Christmas I got to ask Nick what he wanted.
He responded with what felt like a routine answer, “nothing, everything I want or need I just go out and get myself.” I agreed, but it got me thinking about the things we can’t get on our own. That question has led me to understand Christmas a little better this year. God showing up with the gifts we won’t be able to find by ourselves. Peace, love, joy, and on and on. When we stop asking God for these things, we start settling for what we can get on our own.
Maybe this is why Jesus kept telling us to ask?
Luke 11:9-10
9 “So I say to you: Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. 10 For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened.”
So what do you want this year?
Merry Christmas,
Adam
