I took the truck in for a $29.99 oil change at the dealership this morning. It’s already too expensive, but the free wi-fi, coffee, and quiet place to write a blog lured me in.
During the checkup, they just happened to notice worn out spark plugs and a valve cover that is not leaking, but has some “seepage”. The guy mumbles the $875.80 price and then clearly asks, “So, you want us to take care of that today?”
I said, “uh…not today” through a clenched smile.
Even if my truck really needs all of that stuff done . . . (note underlying trust issue here) . . . “Don’t crush me with your ‘maintenance concerns’ all at once Bro.”
I usually rejoice in the truth that Jesus is paying for all the broken and worn out parts in my life, but today I am really glad that He is slow and compassionate in revealing his “maintenance concerns” for me.
Psalm 86:15-16b
15 But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God,
slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness.
16 Turn to me and have mercy on me;
God knows that most of us can only handle one spark plug at a time.
Rest in God’s kindness today,
Adam
