The other day someone said to me,“ I want to do something significant by the time I am 30”. Since I am well over 30, I thought, oh man, I guess I should aim for something good by 40? That’s too close, maybe 50. But wait, what does that mean “something significant”?

Got me thinking about the perspective and definition of success.
My daughter was working hard on her science fair project this last weekend. She was worried about doing everything right and getting an A. As her father, I think an “A” would be great, but I know she is smart; I really just want her to finish it. Learn about erosion, follow the directions, use brown or blue, have fun…all good, but just finish it. Let’s do this!

On Sundays we have been talking about a sermon by Jesus. He defines success as persecution, love for enemies, meekness…faithfulness.
It is good to remember that Jesus doesn’t ask us to do something great or else we have failed. Rather, he has already made our lives significant (we are salt and light), and the question has become what do you want to do? Jesus is inviting us to get it done!

Success is faithfulness and faith takes courage.
Your faith and faithfulness is as significant as it gets.

My sister has a great quote by Mother Teresa on her desk.
“God doesn’t require us to succeed; he only requires that you try”

I like that, keep the faith today.
